There is one on a magazine in front of me. It's a portuguese used cars magazine ("auto compra e venda"), dating from january/2005. It's a '89 320i cabrio, with full extras + leather, for €6000.

I would drive the car with the belgium plate.
there is no way for the autorities to know the day you enter the country, so there is no way to check the 45 days

since you are belgium, with a belgium driving licence you'll not have any trouble

I have a Irish friend who drives a Ford with a spanish plate for years, without any problem

i think they will know the day of arrival. since i want to get a job in portugal, i need a working permit of your goverment. so the day i get a job. i'm officialy living in portugal.

They will know the day of "your" arrival, but they don't know the day you enter with the BMW

if i do not longer have an adress in belgium, i can not get insurance for the belgian plated car and i can not pass the technical check. that might give problems...

Never question how the portuguese do that kind of stuff!

When we want to do something we find always a way or a "hole" in the law to do it

Probably you have family in Belgium, so you can give their address for insurance

regarding tecnical check, in Portugal only portuguese cars have to go to tecnical check

OH, by the way. About the insurance, the family adress is a good idea, but for the technical inspeccion, you´re forgeting something, since your car has a belgium plate, you MUST have the belgium technical inspection up to date. In case of an accident any insurance company will refuse to take responsability for the damages.
Mind that, you´d be better to take care of things step by step.
That´s my opinion and the wallet is yours

you are right cravo, and i'm not planning on driving 2000 km every year to belgium and back just to do a technical check...

so, just get some portuguese license plates... $$
